Which Qualifications Does NSFAS Fund
The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) is important in ensuring that South African students have access to quality education without being burdened by excessive tuition, housing, and other related expenditures. NSFAS funding is not available for all qualifications and courses. In this post, we will look at the qualities that NSFAS often funds as well as the qualifying requirements for students requesting financial aid.

Qualifications NSFAS Fund
NSFAS primarily supports high-demand qualifications and courses that are connected with the country’s economic and developmental goals. NSFAS funds the following qualifications;
- Undergraduate degree Degrees:
The NSFAS frequently pays the whole cost of tuition as well as allowances for textbooks and housing for students pursuing undergraduate degrees in a variety of areas.
- National Certificate (Vocational):
Students participating in National Certificate (Vocational) programmes at Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges are also supported by NSFAS. These courses are intended to provide students with the practical skills and information required for various occupations.
Programs for a National Diploma and an Advanced Diploma:
- NSFAS funding is also available to students studying National Diploma and Advanced Diploma programs in sectors such as engineering, computer technology, and healthcare.

Documents Required To Apply For NSFAS
All applicants are required to upload and submit the following documents;
- All applicants must provide a copy of their ID. A temporary ID issued by the Department of Home Affairs will be accepted.
- Non-SASSA applicants must provide ID copies of parent/s, legal guardian/guardian or spouse.
- Smart ID cards: a copy with both sides of the smart ID must be provided.
- Proof of income: The applicant and/or parents/legal guardian/spouse (where applicable (non-SASSA) should provide the latest payslip not older than 3 months, UIF letter, appointment letter, retrenchment letter (applicant and/or parent(s), legal guardian/spouse)
- Passports/Driver’s licenses will not be accepted as proof of ID.
How To Apply For NSFAS
Follow the steps below to complete the NSFAS application;
- Visit the official website of NSFAS at: www.nsfas.org.za
- Click on the ‘myNSFAS’ tab.
- Create a myNSFAS account
- Click on the ‘APPLY’ tab and complete the sections on the screen
- Upload required supporting documents where applicable
- Click on ‘Submit’.
