What Is The 55% Rule For NSFAS 2025?

Are you a South African student interested in furthering your education but concerned about the costs? The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) is intended to assist students in financial need. To increase your chances of receiving NSFAS funding, you must grasp the 55% rule.

The NSFAS 55% rule is a key qualifying factor that determines whether you qualify for NSFAS financial aid. Simply defined, this law mandates a minimum academic achievement of 55% in your Grade 12 final examinations. This percentage is based on your overall performance in six recognized subjects. Continuing university students must obtain a progressive course credit pass rate of 55% by the 2025 academic year. NSFAS hopes to encourage students to continue giving their all to their studies by instituting minimum credit ratings. In 2025, NSFAS will evaluate the N+ for remote university students, and academic qualifications will gradually increase from 55% to 60%.

NSFAS evaluates the marks from six particular topics in your Grade 12 final examinations to determine if you satisfy the level. Depending on the curriculum you choose to follow, these topics are often a combination of required and optional subjects. You must select the subjects thoughtfully and do well in them. The total of your scores in the chosen six topics is added up, and the result is divided by six to determine your composite percentage. You fulfil the academic requirements for NSFAS if this aggregate percentage equals or surpasses 55%. Students are encouraged to strive for academic achievement by the 55% rule. NSFAS guarantees that its support is allocated toward students who are dedicated to their studies by establishing a minimal threshold. The rule serves as a filter, allowing NSFAS to operate.
