Who Qualifies For NSFAS Funding at Wits?
You are eligible to apply for NSFAS at EWit if you meet the requirements provided below;
- South African citizens or permanent residents • SASSA grant recipients
- Applicants whose combined gross household income is not more than R350 000 per year
- Persons living with disabilities whose combined gross household income is not more than R600 000 per year.
Who Should Not Apply For NSFAS At Wit?
Students who have already applied for and received funding in past years, have not yet graduated from their present qualification, and have no plans to move sectors (TVET College to University or vice versa). They will be supported automatically for the remainder of their study if they pass their courses and fulfil the academic requirements.

Required Documents To Apply For NSFAS At Wits
The following documents must be uploaded to apply for funding at Wits University;
All applicants:
- Copy of ID
- ID copies of parent(s), guardian or spouse
- Proof of income of parent(s),
- guardian or spouse (payslip or appointment letter, where applicable)
Students living with disabilities must provide:
- A completed and signed Disability Annexure A Form
- Students recognised as vulnerable children must provide: An applicant who is recognised as a vulnerable child by the Department of Social Development must provide a completed and Vulnerable Child Declaration form completed by a social worker.
- Students –( non-SASSA) who have indicated no family members’ details must provide:
An applicant who has indicated that s/he has no family member details and or abridged birth certificate must complete the Non-SASSA Declaration Form (available on the website)
Other documents required, if applicable:
- Retrenchment letter
- Death certificate/s ; Divorce decree
Note: No affidavits or copy of driver’s license will be accepted as proof of ID. If you are a SASSA recipient, then no proof of income is required. Certified documents are not a requirement. Based on the application type, the system will generate a list of required documents for upload.

- Provide Your ID number and your username.
- Click on the ‘Apply’ tab to update your personal information
