NSFAS Application Opening Date For The Academic Year 2025-2026

It is very important to know the application dates and deadline of NSFAS to save you from losing the financial backing that you need for your education. The application window of NSFAS for the 2025-2026 academic year opens on September 28 and closes on January 31, therefore candidates are entreated to complete and submit their applications before the deadline.

To be qualified for NSFAS funding you must meet the following requirements;
Be a South African citizen or permanent citizen dweller.
Have completed the National Senior Certificate (NSC) or equivalent qualification.
Intend to register or are currently registered at a public university or TVET college.
Meet the NSFAS means test requirements based on your household income.

Official Papers To Apply for NSFAS 2025-2026

NSFAS candidates are required to submit the following documents to apply for funding;

Copy of student ID / Birth certificate
Copy of parent/s or guardian/ spouse ID
Smart card: both sides of the card required
Proof of income (where applicable)
Persons living with disability (Disability Annexure A form)
A candidate who is recognized as a vulnerable child by the Department of Social Development must provide a completed Vulnerable Child Declaration form completed by a social worker
A candidate who has indicated that s/he has no family member details and or abridged birth certificate must complete the Declaration: Non-SASSA.

NSFAS Application Process 2025-2026

The NSFAS application process is basic and easy, with simple steps. To apply, complete the steps outlined below;

Step 1: Go to www.nsfas.org.za and click on the ‘myNSFAS’ tab.
Step 2: Create a myNSFAS account
Step 3: Click on the ‘APPLY’ tab and complete the sections on the screen
Step 4: Upload required supporting documents where applicable
Step 5: Click on ‘Submit’.
