Is NSFAS Open For Late Applications 2025
Have you missed the initial NSFAS application deadline? Don’t worry, there may still be hope. NSFAS sometimes knows that circumstances may prevent you from applying on time. Please note that late applications are subject to the availability of funds and will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis. NSFAS will not accept late applications for the 2025 academic year, therefore prospective applicants are advised to submit their applications before the closing date.
The applications portal for NSFAS for the 2025 academic year is open and accepting applications from interested and eligible students of South Africa. To apply for NSFAS, complete the application form during the application period and be a part of the scheme.

2025 NSFAS Application Opening Date
The applications portal of NSFAS opens on September 20th for applications from interested students and closes on December 15, 2024, therefore eligible students are advised to submit the applications before the deadline as NSFAS will not accept late applications for the 2025 academic year.
Who Does Nsfas Fund for 2025
To be eligible for NSFAS, you must meet the below criteria;
- All South African citizens
- All SASSA grant recipients qualify for funding
- Applicants whose combined household income is not more than R350 000 per annum
- A person with a disability: Combined household income must not be more than R600 000 per annum
- SASSA recipients automatically qualify for funding and need not submit any proof of income.
Credentials Required To Apply For NSFAS 2025
All applicants must provide;
- a copy of their ID. A temporary ID issued by the Department of Home Affairs will be accepted.
- Non-SASSA applicants must provide ID copies of parent/s, legal guardian/guardian, or spouse.
- Smart ID cards: a copy with both sides of the smart ID must be provided.
- Proof of income: applicant and/or parents/legal guardian/spouse (where applicable (non-SASSA) should provide the latest payslip not older than 3 months, UIF letter, appointment letter, retrenchment letter (applicant and/or parent(s), legal guardian/spouse)
- Passports/Driver’s licenses will not be accepted as proof of ID.
