Application Opening Date For NSFAS 2025/2026
The official date for NSFAS online Application is November 21 and the closing date is Decemebr 15, 2024. Applicants are advised to apply on time within this period to avoid complications. Who Can Apply For NSFAS 2025/2026?
To apply for NSFAS, you must meet the following requirements:
- All SASSA grant recipients
- Must have email and cell phone number
- Be a South African citizen with a valid ID number
- Be a first-time entering university or TVET college student
- Household income must not exceed R350,000 per annum
- For persons living with disabilities, household income should not exceed R600 000 per annum.

Who Cannot Apply For NSFAS 2025/2026?
The following students are not eligible to apply for NSFAS funding for the 2025/2026 academic year;
- Students who have received 100% study funding from non-NSFAS sources.
- A student who already has obtained an undergraduate qualification and wants to study for a second undergraduate qualification.
- A student who has achieved a certificate qualification and wants to study for a second certificate qualification.
- Students studying at a private institution.
- Students enrolled for qualifications that are not approved by DHET and/or SAQA accredited.
How To Apply For NSFAS 2025/2026
NSFAS applications for the 2025/2026 academic year are done online on the official website of the agency during the application period. Follow the steps below to apply for NSFAS 2025/2026;

- Create a myNSFAS profile
- Complete all required information
- Submit your application
Required Documents To Apply For NSFAS 2025/2026
The following documents are required to complete the NSFAS application process;
Students with disabilities must provide:
- A completed and signed Disability Annexure Form, please ensure that the medical report is merged with this disability annexure when you create a file to submit with your application.
The Students must download the NSFAS 2025 Consent form:
- NSFAS reserves the right to validate all information and details provided by the applicant and parent/guardian/spouse against independent third-party data sources.
Students must download the NSFAS Orphan or Vulnerable Child Declaration form:
- This form is only to be completed by applicants who are under the age of 18 and who are orphans OR, who are vulnerable children in that they have been exposed to abuse, neglect, exploitation, risk of violence and substance abuse.
The Students must download the NSFAS Declaration form:
- This form only applies to applicants who are 34 years old or younger. This form is used to verify parental/guardian details.
Other documents that may be required, if applicable:
- Retrenchment letter
- Death certificate/s
- Divorce Decree
- Proof of legal guardianship
- Marriage certificate
- Other documents may be required for appeal purposes,….eg retrenchment letter
