Opening Date For NSFAS Application 2025
The NSFAS Online Application Portal for the 2025 Academic year will be made available from September to 31 January 2025. NSFAS may not consider late applications for 2025 so we urge every candidate to apply as soon as the application window opens before the closing deadline.

Needed Legal Papers To Apply for NSFAS
The following legal papers must be uploaded and submitted along with your completed application form;
- All candidate must provide a copy of their ID. A temporary ID issued by the Department of Home Affairs will be accepted.
- Non-SASSA candidates must provide ID copies of parent/s, legal guardian/guardian, or spouse.
- Smart ID cards: a copy with both sides of the smart ID must be provided.
- Proof of income: The applicant and/or parents/legal guardian/spouse (where applicable (non-SASSA) should provide the latest payslip not older than 3 months, UIF letter, appointment letter, retrenchment letter (candidate and/or parent(s), legal guardian/spouse)
- Passports/Driver’s licenses will not be accepted as proof of ID.

How To Put In An Application For NSFAS
Follow the steps below to enroll for NSFAS;
- Visit the official website of NSFAS at: www.nsfas.org.za
- Click on the ‘myNSFAS’ tab.
- Create a myNSFAS account
- Click on the ‘APPLY’ tab and complete the sections on the screen
- Upload required supporting documents where applicable
- Click on ‘Submit’.
Who Can Petition For NSFAS Funding?
If a student’s financial aid application is rejected or financial aid for a continuing student is removed, he or she may file a petition with the NSFAS.
- Petition decisions are contingent on budget availability.
- The petition will only be entertained for students who have applied for financial aid through NSFAS.
Who Cannot Petition For NSFAS Funding?
Students may not file an appeal if they:
- Are enrolled for a qualification that NSFAS does not sponsor;
- They have completed N+2 (or N+3 in the case of disabled students).
- The student is a gap year student who was previously refused financial aid by NSFAS due to academic qualifying criterion violations.
- Inquiries should be directed to the institution if they have not submitted their registration record to NSFAS or if they have submitted an incorrect registration record.
