Opening Date For Unisa NSFAS 2025-2026
The NSFAS applications are now open and will close on 31 January, therefore, all completed applications must be submitted before the closing date. Late applications will not be considered by NSFAS. The portal is open to all interested students who need financial aid to further their education.
Qualification Criteria For The 2025-2026 NSFAS Application
- To be qualified for NSFAS funding you must meet the following requirements;
- Be a citizen of South Africa or a permanent citizen dweller
- Have completed the National Senior Certificate (NSC) or equivalent qualification.
- Intend to register or are currently registered at a public university or TVET college.
- Meet the NSFAS means test requirements based on your household income.

Legal Papers Needed To Apply For NSFAS.
All candidates are required to upload and submit the following legal papers;
- All candidates must provide a copy of their ID. A temporary ID issued by the Department of Home Affairs will be accepted.
- Non-SASSA candidates must provide ID copies of parent/s, legal guardian/guardian, or spouse.
- Smart ID cards: a copy with both sides of the smart ID must be provided.
- Proof of income: The applicant and/or parents/legal guardian/spouse (where applicable (non-SASSA) should provide the latest payslip not older than 3 months, UIF letter, appointment letter, retrenchment letter (candidate and/or parent(s), legal guardian/spouse)
- Passports/Driver’s licenses will not be accepted as proof of ID.

- Visit the official website of NSFAS at: www.nsfas.org.za
- Click on the ‘myNSFAS’ tab.
- Create a myNSFAS account
- Click on the ‘APPLY’ tab and complete the sections on the screen
- Upload required supporting documents where applicable
- Click on ‘Submit’.
