  • Financial Need

You have to demonstrate that you or your household have a combined yearly income that is less than a specified NSFAS level. This criterion is critical for ensuring that financial assistance reaches people in greatest need.

  • Academic Qualification

While NSFAS is intended to assist students from a variety of academic backgrounds, you must fulfil the entrance standards for the individual course or program you choose to pursue.

  • Matriculation Validation

A valid National Senior Certificate (NSC) or an equivalent certification is required for most undergraduate programs. If you are a postgraduate student, you must fulfil the course’s unique academic criteria.

  • Application Submission Deadline

You must submit your NSFAS application before the deadline. If you miss the deadline, your application may not be considered, therefore keep track of the application dates.

  • Applicants whose combined household income is not more than R350 000 per annum
  • A person with disability: Combined household income must not be more than R600 000 per annum
  • Students who started studying before 2018 and whose household income is not more than R122 000 per annum.
  • Enrollment in a South African Public University or TVET College: NSFAS support is available for students planning to enrol in South African public universities or TVET institutions. Private institution funding is restricted and subject to certain requirements.

How To Apply for NSFAS 2025

Follow the steps below to apply for NSFAS funding 2025;

  • Create a myNSFAS account via this link: https://my.nsfas.org.za/.
  • Provide Your ID number and your username.
  • Click on the ‘Apply’ tab to update your personal information
  1. Upload your application supporting documents. Upload the following documents;
  2. Copy of student ID / Birth certificate
  3. Copy of parent/s or guardian/ spouse ID
  4. Smart card: both sides of the card required
  5. Proof of income (where applicable)
  6. Persons living with disability (Disability Annexure A form)
  7. An applicant who is recognised as a vulnerable child by the Department of Social Development must provide a completed Vulnerable Child Declaration form completed by a social worker
  8. An applicant who has indicated that s/he has no family member details and or abridged birth certificate must complete the Declaration: Non-SASSA.
  • Submit your application.
