NSFAS Application Opening Date 2024

From September 28th until January 31st, the Online Application portal for the 2024-2025 academic year will be available. This portal is for anyone looking for financial aid from the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) to attend Tvet Colleges and Universities.

Prospective applicant are urged to submit their applications before the closing date, hence late applications will not be considered for the 2024 academic year.

Who Can Apply For NSFAS 2024?

To apply for NSFAS (National Student Financial Aid Scheme), you must meet the following requirements:

  • All SASSA grant recipients
  • Must have email and cell phone number
  • Be a South African citizen with a valid ID number
  • Be a first-time entering university or TVET college student
  • Household income must not exceed R350,000 per annum
  • Must meet the academic requirements for admission to a university or TVET college
  • For persons living with disabilities, household income should not exceed R600 000 per annum.

Who Cannot Apply For NSFAS 2024?

The following students must not apply for NSFAS funding for the 2024 academic year;

  • Students who have completed a previous qualification.
  • Students with a combined household income of more than R350 000 per annum.
  • Students who have already applied, qualified and received funding. They are automatically funded for the duration of their studies provided they pass their modules and meet the academic requirements.

How To Apply For NSFAS 2024

NSFAS applications for the 2024 academic year are done online on the official website of the agency during the application period. Follow the steps below to apply for NSFAS 2024;

  •  Go to www.nsfas.org.za and click on the ‘myNSFAS’ tab.
  • Create a myNSFAS account
  • Click on the ‘APPLY’ tab and complete the sections on the screen
  • Upload required supporting documents where applicable
  •  Click on ‘Submit’.

Required Documents To Apply for NSFAS 2024

Certified copies of the following documents are required to apply for NSFAS;

  • All applicants must provide a copy of their ID. A temporary ID issued by the Department of Home Affairs will be accepted.
  • Non-SASSA applicants must provide ID copies of parent/s, legal guardian/guardian or spouse.
  •  Smart ID cards: a copy with both sides of the smart ID must be provided.
  • Proof of income: The applicant and/or parents/legal guardian/spouse (where applicable (non-SASSA) should provide the latest payslip not older than 3 months, UIF letter, appointment letter, retrenchment letter (applicant and/or parent(s), legal guardian/spouse)
  • Passports/Driver’s licenses will not be accepted as proof of ID.
