NSFAS has released its application dates for the 2025 academic year, therefore all students interested in NSFAS financial assistance must apply now. The NSFAS application portal is open to all students who meet the eligibility criteria for the funds.
If you’re planning to apply for NSFAS in 2025, you need to be aware of the closing date and the application process to secure your funding as NSFAS will not accept late applications for the 2025 academic year.
NSFAS applications are done online on the official website of the agency: complete the application form, attach supporting documents and submit before the closing date.

Application Closing Date For NSFAS 2025
The NSFAS application portal for the 2025 academic year is open NOW and accepting applications from eligible students of South Africa. The online application portal of NSFAS closes on December 15, 2024. Interested students must submit their applications before the closing date as late applications will not be considered.
NSFAS Eligibility Criteria 2025
To apply for NSFAS, you must meet the following eligibility requirements:
- All SASSA grant recipients
- Must have email and cell phone number
- Be a South African citizen with a valid ID number
- Be a first-time entering university or TVET college student
- Household income must not exceed R350,000 per annum
- Must meet the academic requirements for admission to a university or TVET college
- For persons living with disabilities, household income should not exceed R600 000 per annum.
How To Apply For NSFAS 2025
NSFAS applications for the 2025 academic year are done online on the official website of the NSFAS agency during the application period. Follow the steps below to apply for NSFAS 2025;
- Go to www.nsfas.org.za and click on the ‘myNSFAS’ tab.
- Create a myNSFAS account
- Click on the ‘APPLY’ tab and complete the sections on the screen
- Upload required supporting documents where applicable
- Click on ‘Submit’.
Documents Required To Apply for NSFAS 2025
The following documents are required to apply for NSFAS;
- All applicants must provide a copy of their ID. A temporary ID issued by the Department of Home Affairs will be accepted.
- Non-SASSA applicants must provide ID copies of parent/s, legal guardian/guardian or spouse.
- Smart ID cards: a copy with both sides of the smart ID must be provided.
- Proof of income: The applicant and/or parents/legal guardian/spouse (where applicable (non-SASSA) should provide the latest payslip not older than 3 months, UIF letter, appointment letter, retrenchment letter (applicant and/or parent(s), legal guardian/spouse)
- Passports/Driver’s licenses will not be accepted as proof of ID.
