 Is NSFAS Still Open

YES. NSFAS is still open for application for the forthcoming academic year. Apply now and receive financial assistance to pursue higher education. NSFAS is currently open for applications from eligible students whop are enrolled in public institutions and meet the eligibility criteria of the funds.

The NSFAS application simple and straightforward and must be done online on the official website of the agency by completing and submitting the completed application form along with supporting documents before the closing date.

NSFAS Application Opening Date

All prospective applicants of NSFAS may begin to submit their applications from September 28 and closes on January 31. All applications must be submitted before the closing date, as late applications will not be considered.

Eligibility Requirements for NSFAS

Students that falls with this criteria are eligible to apply for NSFAS;

  • Applicant Must be a South African citizen / permanent resident
  • Combined gross household income should not exceed R350 000 per annum
  • Combined gross household income (persons living with disabilities) should not exceed R600 000 per annum
  • SASSA recipients automatically qualify on financial eligibility
  • Must have email and cell phone number.

How To Apply For NSFAS

NSFAS applications are done online on the official website of the NSFAS during the application period. Follow the steps below to apply for NSFAS;

  • Go to www.nsfas.org.za and click on the ‘myNSFAS’ tab.
  • Create a myNSFAS account
  • Click on the ‘APPLY’ tab and complete the sections on the screen
  • Upload required supporting documents where applicable
  • Click on ‘Submit’.

Necessary Documents To Apply For NSFAS

The following documents must be uploaded to complete your application for NSFAS;

  • Copy of student ID / Birth certificate
  • Copy of parent/s or guardian/ spouse ID
  • Smart card: both sides of the card required
  • Proof of income (where applicable)
  • Persons living with disability (Disability Annexure A form)
  • An applicant who is recognised as a vulnerable child by the Department of Social Development must provide a completed Vulnerable Child Declaration form completed by a social worker
  • An applicant who has indicated that s/he has no family member details and or abridged birth certificate must complete the Declaration: Non-SASSA.
