Is NSFAS Open For Second Semester 2025?

YES. NSFAS is open for the Second Semester of 2025, therefore interested students are advised to submit their applications NOW for the second semester. Access to financial aid can be a deciding element in one’s academic journey when pursuing higher education. The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has long provided financial support to South African students in need. As the school year proceeds, many students worry that NSFAS will be accepting applications during the second semester of 2025. We will look at the current state of NSFAS, including application availability, deadlines, and major updates.

NSFAS Second Semester Application Opening Date 2025

The NSFAS application period for 2nd semester will open in June 2025. Interested students must submit their completed applications on time. Late applications will not be considered for the 2025 academic year.

  • Trimesters 2 & 3 as per the DHET calendar, in May and September respectively, as Walk-in assistive capture application
  • Semester 2 June – July walk-in, assistive capture application

Second Semester Eligibility Criteria For NSFAS 2025

All applicants must meet certain eligibility criteria. The eligibility criteria are provided below;

  • You must be a South African citizen
  • You must be studying or intend on studying towards an undergraduate qualification in 2025
  • You must be studying or intend on studying a public tertiary institution within South Africa (University or TVET College)
  • You must have satisfactory academic records
  • You must NOT have completed any previous qualifications
  • You must be in a state of financial need.

NSFAS Application Procedure Second Semester 2025

Follow the steps below to apply for NSFAS 2025;

  • Visit the NSFAS portal at https://www.nsfas.org.za/
  • Select the “Create an account” tab where you will be required to fill in your ID number, first and last name, email address, contact number and your selected password
  • You will then be required to validate your account and the information you have provided
  • After creating your account, you can select the “Login” tab and log in by filling in your ID number and password.
  • Fill in all the required information and upload your supporting documents.
  • Submit your application before the closing date.

Required Documents To Apply for NSFAS Second Semester 2025

The following documents must be provided to apply for NSFAS 2025;

  • A certified copy of your South African ID or birth certificate.
  • A copy of your parent or guardian’s ID or death certificate (if applicable).
  • Proof of household income (e.g., SASSA grant, recent payslips, or an affidavit if unemployed).
  • Your matric certificate or final Grade 12 results (if applicable).
  • Proof of university or TVET college admission or provisional acceptance.
