When Does the NSFAS Application Open for 2025?
The NSFAS application portal opens on September 20th, 2024, and closes on December 15th, 2024. Therefore, all applicants must submit their applications before the closing date since late applications may not be considered.
Who Qualifies For Nsfas 2025-2026
To be eligible for NSFAS funding, you must meet the below criteria;
- All South African citizens
- All SASSA grant recipients qualify for funding
- Applicants whose combined household income is not more than R350 000 per annum
- A person with a disability: Combined household income must not be more than R600 000 per annum
- SASSA recipients automatically qualify for funding and need not submit any proof of income.
Who should not apply for NSFAS 2025?
- A student who has achieved a certificate qualification and wants to study for a second certificate qualification.
- Students studying at a private institution.
- Students who have received 100% study funding from non-NSFAS sources.
- Students enrolled for qualifications that are not approved by DHET and/or SAQA accredited.
- A student who already has obtained an undergraduate qualification and wants to study for a second undergraduate qualification.
Documents Required To Apply For NSFAS in 2025
All applicants must provide;
- a copy of their ID. A temporary ID issued by the Department of Home Affairs will be accepted.
- Non-SASSA applicants must provide ID copies of parent/s, legal guardian/guardian, or spouse.
- Smart ID cards: a copy with both sides of the smart ID must be provided.
- Proof of income: applicant and/or parents/legal guardian/spouse (where applicable (non-SASSA) should provide the latest payslip not older than 3 months, UIF letter, appointment letter, retrenchment letter (applicant and/or parent(s), legal guardian/spouse)
- Passports/Driver’s licenses will not be accepted as proof of ID.
