NSFAS For 2024 Application Opening Date
The National Student Financial Aid Scheme Application period begins from September 28 to January 31 for the academic year 2024. Prospective applicants are urged to submit their applications before the closing date. NSFAS will not consider or accept late applications for the 2024 academic year.
Eligibility Requirements For NSFAS 2024
To apply for NSFAS (National Student Financial Aid Scheme), prospective applicants must ensure that they meet the following eligibility requirements:
- All SASSA grant recipients
- Must have email and cell phone number
- Be a South African citizen with a valid ID number
- Be a first-time entering university or TVET college student
- Household income must not exceed R350,000 per annum
- Must meet the academic requirements for admission to a university or TVET college
- For persons living with disabilities, household income should not exceed R600 000 per annum.
How To Apply For NSFAS 2024
NSFAS applications for the upcoming academic year are done online on the official website of the agency during the application period. Follow the steps below to apply for NSFAS;
- Go to www.nsfas.org.za and click on the ‘myNSFAS’ tab.
- Create a myNSFAS account
- Click on the ‘APPLY’ tab and complete the sections on the screen
- Upload required supporting documents where applicable
- Click on ‘Submit’.

Required Documents To Apply for NSFAS 2024
Certified copies of the following documents are required to apply for NSFAS;
- All applicants must provide a copy of their ID. A temporary ID issued by the Department of Home Affairs will be accepted.
- Non-SASSA applicants must provide ID copies of parent/s, legal guardian/guardian or spouse.
- Smart ID cards: a copy with both sides of the smart ID must be provided.
- Proof of income: The applicant and/or parents/legal guardian/spouse (where applicable (non-SASSA) should provide the latest payslip not older than 3 months, UIF letter, appointment letter, retrenchment letter (applicant and/or parent(s), legal guardian/spouse)
- Passports/Driver’s licenses will not be accepted as proof of ID.
